BIO
Ibiza International Saxophonist - Lugotti
Luis Gutiérrez (also known as LuGotti) was born in León, Spain, in 1983.
Early on, his father's influence and passion for music were decisive for him to show his artistic vocation. He began his musical education at the age of twelve. After attending the Provincial Conservatory of Music of León, he continued his training in Madrid, where he took lessons in Composition, Saxophone, and Ensemble playing with Bob Sands at the Creative Music School.
LuGotti’s great potential became evident in 2002 when, after auditioning in Barcelona, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious “Berklee College of Music”, in Boston (Massachusetts, USA). The following year he began his American adventure, expanding his knowledge with professors of great stature such as George Garzone, Ed Tomassi, Shannon LeClaire, Jim Odgren, and Dave Santoro, among others.
His extraordinary ability, technique, and musical vocabulary became quickly apparent, and during 2004 he became part of a band known as The Funk On Me with professionals like Fred Wesley (trombonist of James Brown and George Clinton, among others) and Kat Dyson (Prince's guitarist for several years). With this band, LuGotti also participated as a guest artist in the B. B. King Blues Festival, accompanying the famous guitarist throughout B.B. King’s Spanish tour. During the same year, he also recorded the band's first album.
In 2005, Maceo Parker invited LuGotti to join him on his “School’s In” tour and accompany him at the Roxy Theater in Boston, where Maceo introduced LuGotti to the American public as “The Spanish promise of Funk”. Just a few weeks later, LuGotti also performed with the acclaimed singer Shemekia Copeland, daughter of famous blues guitarist, Johnny Clyde Copeland, during her concerts at Boston's Regatta Bar. His talent and trajectory led him to complete his Bachelor’s Degree of Music at Berklee College with the highest honors: Summa Cum Laude in Saxophone Performance.
Upon his return to Spain, he alternated teaching and performances as a soloist. His versatility led him to collaborate with diverse musical personalities and to participate in numerous recording and television productions, both as a musician and as an actor (acting credits include: “Lola” Coca Cola commercial, Noite de Jazz, live concert for TVE, ETB, and CYL TV, among others).
His first album titled "Crossing Fingers" (entirely composed and produced by him) was released in March 2006. It features collaborations with musicians such as Bobby Sparks (organist of Rh Factor or Marcus Miller) and Louis Cato (drummer of Norah Jones or Satya Project, among others).
In 2010, LuGotti returned to New York (USA) to record the second album by the band The Funk On Me entitled "Reflections in the inner mirror" with important musicians like Darryl Jones (bassist of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, The Rolling Stones), Fred Wesley (trombonist of James Brown, among others), and Nicki Richards (backing vocalist of Madonna or Sting, among others).
In 2012, LuGotti began his television adventure by becoming a member of the live band of the Telecinco show "Sálvame" for four years. That same year he also worked as a saxophonist in the band of the talent show "La Voz".
LuGotti has always been attracted to the sound of the fusion of his saxophone with electronic music, hence, when he was only 17 years old, he began to make his first steps playing in nightclubs throughout Spain. At the age of 19, he was already touring around the world with well-known brands of spirits and playing in important clubs (Cavalli Club Dubai, Ministry Of Sound in London, Pacha London). During this time, LuGotti collaborated with important international DJs such as Junior Jack, Kid Creme, Wally Lopez, and Grant Nelson, among others.
In 2013, LuGotti developed his facet as a producer of electronic music, presenting his first single and video clip entitled "Golden Notes". In March of the following year, LuGotti's figure as a producer continued to grow internationally, and his single “Candy Girl” accompanied by a video clip was released. As of 2015, he moved to Ibiza and began to perform at Ushuaïa Tower and Hard Rock Ibiza as a resident saxophonist. In 2016, he released a new album entitled "Beats & Music". The summer of 2017, LuGotti joined one of the most important parties on the island, "Children Of The 80's", where he continues to this day in combination with his international performances.
In November 2022, his latest album "Bonito Problema" was released. The new EP features ten unreleased tracks composed and produced by LuGotti.
LuGotti's blazing vital and professional trajectory, as well as his passion and musical creativity, have led him to be considered one of the best saxophonists of the national artistic scene, fulfilling Maceo Parker's prophecy that LuGotti was "the Spanish promise of Funk".
